I would love to have George Washington Carver because my favorite thing to do on the week end is to eat peanuts!!! Plus Carver has a ton of cool facts about his life, like he did not only crop peanuts! He grew sweet potatoes and soy beans. Plus he was a SLAVE!!!  All of his family that work with him escaped . Eventually Carver did escaped and went to Booker T. Washington school!!! One last fact is  that he Invented a machine to save the cotton!!  I would like to learn if he grew more than 3 things or to learn even more about his life.

“No man has ever learned enough…..” George Washington Carver had always lived up to these words.  He was the first black first student to ever go to Simpson College and the first African American teacher at Iowa State University.

George Washington Carver was born in 1864, in Missouri. No one knew the exact day or the time because slaves’ records were not taken that well.   He had a sibling, John, a mom named Mary Carver, and a Dad who died he was before born. Then after two years, they were all kidnapped, leaving John and George behind because of their colds.  From that day they on they never saw their Mother again. So they went to Moses Carver there owner raised them like her own child (slave owner). George was very weak as he grew up, John was strong and tough. George did all the girl work in the house like cooking, sewing, dusting, etc..

After a few months tutoring he went to a real school, Neosho to get a better education. It turned out that there was another George Carver so his only friend made a middle name for him, Washington. She made it Washington because he was honest and kind.

Soon he left for college. The first college did not accept him because of his color. The next college had to accept him because of his IQ (intelligence questions). At the college he studied numerous such as, what helps that helps plants live longer. Plus, he even became a trainer to the football team! Some even called him the black Leonardo because of his art skills! Then they accepted him as a teacher, so he accepted the job.

Next, after a year or two he got a letter from Booker T Washington. It said that he wanted him to teach at his school. In his goodbye speech he said that; “It has always been the one greatest idea of my life to be the greatest good to the greatest number of my people possible….” At the end he agreed to go.  When he got there the laboratory was empty so the students and George Washington Carver went to the dump, and collected bottles and cans. After he cleaned up he had a laboratory, it was not a good one, at least he had one. He grew up loving plants and he never got married or had children. He died on January 5, 1943.

I, George  Washington Carver, should  win the JKAY Award because I saved crops from dying to proved food or clothing for familys and also gave African American students the chance to have a  good education
