I would like to have John Muir because we are both interested in nature. We are also interested in exploration.  He established the sequoia and Yosemite in 1890.  In 1908 the Muir woods national monument was established Marin County, California. He is very interesting and is similar to me. His birthday is on April 21,1838

Listen to AN INTERVIEW WITH JOHN MUIR

On April 21, 1838 John Muir was born in Dunbar, Scotland.  John’s dad moved them to America when John was ten.  While Muir was in Scotland he lived near the Scottish hills which he played in with his brother David.

In 1880 John Muir married Louie Strentzel.  By 1886 Louie and John had two daughters.  Louie lived in California while John lived in the Sierras.  Just a year before their marriage John discovered a glacier. By 1890 John Muir established Yosemite National Park.  Two years after he established Yosemite he established the Sierra Club.  John died in 1914 at the age of 76

I like George Washington Carver because he likes science like I do.  He also invented things from peanuts like milk, coffee, flour, ink, and soap. He made so many things that made our life better and easier.

I like Steven Jobs because he makes computers.  I am fascinated by computers.  Steven is the inventor of Apple Inc.  I don’t use Apple products but I would like to buy one.

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of autumn.  John Muir created the sierra club which protects wildlife and land.  The sierra club now has over 500,000 members.  John Muir established many national parks.  Without the national parks people would not go there and the parks would be destroyed. When you bring up john Muir people will think who that person is.  Most people don’t know that he established Yosemite and sequoia national parks.

Louisa Wanda Strentzel was born in Texas in 1847. She came to California in 1849, the same year that John Muir was coming to Wisconsin from Scotland. So much has been made of Muir's life that Louie's life and contributions are hardly known. This brief paper is a tribute to Louie and to the help and support she gave her husband in his work. Louie was a wonderful musician, wife, mother, ranch manager and helpmate. Muir did not relegate Louie to an anonymous life in the background -- this is what she herself preferred. She stayed close to home because she wanted to, preferring not to be away more than a day or two. Certainly she was not inclined to camp out on an Alaskan glacier or even to take a walk in the hills nearby their Alhambra Valley home. Daughter Helen's July, 1963 letter contains a rare look at Louie and forms much of what we know about Louie. The Muirs' daughter Wanda was born March 25, 1881 and daughter Helen on January 23, 1886. Helen's room overlooked the train track, tunnels, and trestle, on the side of Mt. Wanda. She became fascinated with trains and plastered her room with posters from the train companies, learned the timetables, and watched for expected trains coming around the mountain. Both girls accompanied their father on walks in the nearby hills, and Muir named two of the peaks Mt. Wanda and Mt. Helen.  for more info on Louisa Wanda Strentzel please go to
