Jackie Joyner Kersee was one of the most important track and field athletes. She was born in 1962, in East Saint Louis. She had a brother named Al and her mother Mary. Mary had her first baby when she was in school. Mary had to drop out to take care of Jackie. In school she ran track, played basketball and a little volleyball in the Lincoln high school. Jackie Joyner Kersee graduated in 1980 in the top ten. She went to college at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). She won the AAU’s national junior pentathlon champion four times. She also ran with the track club called the East Saint Railers.

One of Jackie’s dreams was to become a basketball, volleyball, and track athlete. She wanted to go to UCLA for college. In the 200 meter Jackie pulled her hamstring in the right leg and fell to pain. Her mother Mary had a brain disease and Jackie and Al had to come home to take care of her. She looked up to someone named Eleyn Ashford. The university asked her if she wanted to become a coach, or a warm weather trainer. She sold candy bars to raise money for the track meet.

Bob kersee was Jackie’s coach and husband. Jackie did track and field in the 200 meter and long jump. Jackie Joyner kersee had a foundation that is for helping young people in poor urban communities. Also Jackie and bob took 100 boys and girls from East Saint Louis to New York City for the annual Macys Thanksgiving Day parade. In 1929 Jackie won a bronze metal and a heptathlon in the long jump.

She returned to basketball witch see hadn’t played since college when she played for Richmond rage of the American basketball league. Also Jackie was sick of being an indivial player and wanted to be a team player. One of the runners made up a rumor about her that said she has preformed enhancing drugs using steroids. One of the best things that happened to Jackie was she had the most she had to stop the 800 meter Witch was the last event. For the fourth time Jackie nailed the personal heptathlon in the long jump and ripped through the 800 meter to win a gold medal. She beat the opponent she was facing with a 24 foot, 3 ½ inch in the long jump, witch is an Olympic champion.

Jackie won the world record 4 times and cared a lot for people and did things for people. She also ran track and won 4 times too. She did all track and field meters. Jackie became the best track and field athlete, and had high scores for the meters and long jumps. Jackie engaged other people to follow there dream because Jackie did her dream and now she is doing track and field. That’s why I picked Jackie Joyner Kersee.
