Maria Mitchell

Ever since Maria was little, she loved astronomy, studying stars, and loved the sky. She was an immigrant so when she was on the boat to America she had a perfect view of the stars.  Maria always wanted to be an astronomer.  If she ever got lost she can guide her way back by using the stars. Maria was the 3rd of nine brothers and sisters. She is a famous American because she was the 1st women astronomer in history and what’s so cool is that she did not go to school, so at her age she did not no a thing about science, space, or astronomy, but lucky her dad taught her, her dad is also an astronomer his name is William Mitchell he married Maria’s mom Lydia.

As Maria got older about her late twenty’s  she had thrown a party but instead of partying she went up stairs in her observatory and looked through the telescope she could see a little white blurry thing she new what it was it was a comet. Maria went to her professor she had told him what she had discovered. A few days later a lot of people new about her and the word got out that she had found a comet. A day later she had won a medal along a lot of scholar ships to colleges the medal said “Not in vain do we watch the setting and the rising of the stars “it was originally in Latin but she translated it because she can speak both. Maria went a lot of places with her friends that took many years she went to London, England, and France. Sometimes she just went to places just to get to college there. Or she will take her student’s to a place because she was a teacher like she took herself out side on her observatory and recorded the eclipse “at 11:55 and seven second she started recording the beginning of the eclipse” she wrote in  her note book “ I will never forget the site of the eclipse “

Maria loved kids and to teach them to but she liked girls the most because they did not get the privileges of boys she liked all races of people and she did not segregate the whites from the blacks like other people did in that time. She was an independent person so Maria never got married nor have kids. If she was still alive rite now she would have probably went up into space pry about 3 or 4 times. A few years probely before she died a bunch of women that she was with did not like how much her job paid her so Maria fought for their writes they threatened to  quit their jobs just too receive as much pay as the men

Maria died in Lynn Massachusetts in 1889, she will never be fore gotten because of all the adventures she was on lots of statues and pictures and portraits’ of her were panted or carved Maria will never be forgotten.
