Theodore Roosevelt

Page history last edited by SamH 13 years, 9 months ago

I think that Theodore Roosevelt would be a really cool man to do for my project. Some reasons why are he was the 26th president of our United States and I love to learn about all the different presidents. He also won the Nobel Prize for Peace, and in 1906 he mediated an end to the Russo Japanese War. Roosevelt also secured a route and began construction of the new Panama Canal. But when Theodore Roosevelt was a young boy he had frail health suffering from severe asthma, he had a strong physique and lifelong love of vigorous activity. I also like to be active and being outside or playing sports with my friends.

That is why I would like to have Theodore Roosevelt for my project.

By: Sam Haile

When Theodore Roosevelt had taken office as president, it was the day before he turned forty-two, that made him the youngest President in the White House. He was popular to the people, also he brought representatives from different countries. Also he had signed a treaty with Panama to build the Panama Canal.

Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858 in New York City. When T.R. (his nickname) was little he had severe asthma and also was in a wheelchair for some of his life. Theodore was an active boy but his legs were weak. Since Theodore was in a wheelchair he couldn’t go run or exercise outside, so his dad built him a workout room in their New York City town house.

One day when Theodore was doing errands for his mother  he came across a dead seal on the side of the street, and he wanted to learn more about it and learn about more animals. His Aunt and Uncle lived right next store, and in their back yard they had many different exotic animals, a peacock, parrot, pheasant, monkey, and one cow. Then he started to collect animals and put them in his bed room, he had dead and alive animals in his room. Teddy tried to start his own museum, but it didn’t happen.  He was going to call it The Roosevelt Museum of Natural Science.

Roosevelt was home schooled or was taught by a tutor his whole life. Theodore graduated from high school in 1876, and went to attend Harvard University to study Natural Science that same year.

At Harvard Theodore met a young lady named Alice, and on October 27th 1880, they got married near Boston Massachusetts in a beautiful ceremony. After only four years of marriage Alice died.

When Roosevelt was away on business had gotten a telegram saying, “Come home immediately.” When he got home Alice was in severe condition, and was dying. Also Teddy’s mother was dying to, his two favorite women died on Valentines Day 1884. Alice died at two in the morning, and his mother died that afternoon. But two days before Valentines Day, Alice had delivered a cute baby girl, they had named her Alice. After his wife and mom died, his life was hard.

After they died Teddy went to the Dakota Territory and he bought a ranch and cattle.  But after Teddy got back from the Dakota territory He saw Edith Carow, his childhood playmate. After a few years of dating they got married on December 2, 1886.Then the next year in September 1887 they had a baby boy named Theodore Roosevelt Jr. Both of his family’s lived in Manhattan, New York City. In 1881-1884 Teddy Roosevelt was elected to the Twenty- First District of Manhattan.  Also when Teddy came back from the Dakota territory he wanted to start writing again, this time instead of a book that he wrote in the Territory, he was going to write a biography. He wanted to write about Governor Morris, he was one of the framers of the U.S. Constitution.

Theodore Roosevelt in 1898 had started the first U.S. Cavalry Regiment, the cavalry was headed by Colonel Wood and Colonel Roosevelt. In 1905 to 1906 Roosevelt and his regiment helped to end the Russo Japanese War. But when they were in Mexico on patrol in a field they caught under fire by a Mexican army. They had to quickly jump into a small creek and fire back. At the end of the battle they’re was a puddle of blood from Roosevelt and Wood’s army. But in 1906 he won the Nobel Peace Prize. After Theodore Roosevelt died on January 6th 1919 Roosevelt had won the  Nobel Peace Prize on January 16th 2001.

Theodore Roosevelt was important to the world because he was popular to the people and he persuaded Congress to build navy Battle ships. He also brought representatives from different countries together. That is  Theodore Roosevelt was so important to the country because he did so many things to help our country. He signed a Treaty with Panama To build the Panama Canal. Also he brought representatives from all different countries together.
