Do you know who the greatest baseball player is? Well if you don’t know it’s Lou Gehrig. He played in 2,130 consecutive games.

             Lou Gehrig was born in Yorkville, New York .His parents names were Christina and Heinrich. The mom worked for rich people and she would bring home left over’s to feed Heinrich and Lou. His Dad made a type of metal at work. His parents didn’t get a lot of money for their jobs .Lou was the only child in his family. His three other siblings died at a young age.

Lou was very smart in school and he never missed a single day of grade school. Lou Gehrig loved sports. He would play soccer, baseball, and football really early in the morning.  Lou Gehrig was the star baseball player on his team.

Lou Gehrig went to a collage called Columbia University. He played for the collage team then he got assign to the New York Yankees. Lou got money playing for the team they even offered Lou as$1,500 bonus. Lou then got a disease that affected the nerves system and it was deadly.                  

Lou Gehrig didn’t have kids but he was married. He married Eleanor they got married on September, 19 1933. Lou Gehrig went to Columbia University and on April, 26 1923a scout from the Yankees came to watch him play. Lou hit two long home runs in that game. Then he got assigned to the Yankees withy a 1,500 bonus.

Lou played fifteen years on the Yankees. Lou played in 2,130 consecutive games. Lou Gehrig played even though he was hurt he had broken finger, stomachaches, fever, and sore arm that earned him the nickname the Iron Horse. Lou was selected leagues most valuable player he got selected again in 1936.

Lou Gehrig stopped hitting the ball for some reason and Lou swung as hard as he could but the ball went know were. Lou watch his diet he worked hard during the winter he took extra batting practice. He also had trouble when he was fielding the ground balls that were hit to him at first base. He had trouble off the field. When he was getting in his base ball uniform on in the club house he fell down.

 Lou Gehrig was getting weak and the teammates were saying take him out of the lineup but his couch Joe McCarthy said Lou plays as long as he likes. Then one day Lou benched himself for the goods of the team. Some reporters asked some questions but Lou didn’t want want to say how hard it was for him to walk he didn’t want to lye so he just said I just cant hit, run, or field. He went to a doctor in Minnesota, and Rochester to see what was going on with him. Lou was dying from a disease the affected the nervous system.

Lou brought the Yankees line-up all the time someone had to bring Lou to the ump so he could see the Yankee line-up. Then Lou made a speech on July 4, 1939 he wasn’t going to play baseball anymore. Lou said the most famous words in baseball history he said today I consider my self the luckiest man on the face of the earth.   

tudy this person because I want to learn more about Lou Gehrig. He was a good baseball player his average was( 363), Home Runs (49), and runs batted in (RBIs 165). He hit 49 home runs again in 1936. He got a rare disease and it was called the Lou Gehrig disease and when he had this disease he took himself out of the Yankees line up and even though he had this disease he thought he was the luckiest man on the face of the earth.Click here for more info.
